ArabCrunch Select WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange as Person of the Year 2010

As 2011 is looming in few hours depending in your country, today we represent ArabCrunch Person of the year.

ArabCrunch Person of the year is an individual who had high impact online or in technology with astonishing revaluation “like” accomplishments throughout  the year of question.

This year there is no doubt that Wikileaks was an earthquake, the site has innovated a new media entity in nutshell, users submit leaks about the secrets or wrong doings of governments and corporations around the world, wikileaks editor around the world check these leaks and release them. Wikileaks has developed a technology that does not log leakers address or source.

For this year 2010 ArabCrunch selects Julian Assange founder of Wikileaks as Person of the year. Assange is not Arab or Muslim but because of the high impact his site has made to major issues relevant to the world: Afghanistan and Iraq.

The government of the United states of America announced War on Julian by Calling Julian as terrorist and a person who has blood in his hand. While many believe that they are angry for uncovering their crimes as those who killed millions of  kids and women and made efforts to hide their crimes are the real terrorists who have blood on their hand.

Juliain Assange Timeline:

  • Assange was born in Townsville, Queensland, and spent much of his youth living on Magnetic Island.
  • In 1987, after turning 16, Assange began hacking under the name “Mendax” (derived from a phrase of Horace: “splendide mendax”, or “nobly untruthful”).
  • Starting in 1994, he lived in Melbourne as a programmer and a developer of free software.[24] In 1995, he wrote Strobe, the first free and open source port scanner.
  • Starting around 1997, he co-invented the Rubberhose deniable encryption system, a cryptographic concept made into a software package for Linux designed to provide plausible deniability against rubber-hose cryptanalysis
  • From 2003 to 2006, Assange studied physics and mathematics at the University of Melbourne. He has also studied philosophy and neuroscience
  • in 2006 founded wikileaks, the non profit organization is run by The Sunshine Press,n April 2010, WikiLeaks posted video from a 2007 incident in which Iraqi civilians and journalists were killed by US forces, on a website called Collateral Murder.
  • In July of the this year, WikiLeaks released Afghan War Diary, a compilation of more than 76,900 documents about the War in Afghanistan not previously available for public review. In October 2010, the group released a package of almost 400,000 documents called the Iraq War Logs in coordination with major commercial media organizations. The Afghanistan War log and Iraq War log exposed war crimes committed by the US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and a mass murder of tens of thousands of women and children.
  • In November 2010, WikiLeaks began releasing U.S. State department diplomatic cables.
  • The organization won a number of awards, including The Economist’s New Media Award in 2008 and Amnesty International’s UK Media Award in 2009.
  • in 2010 TIME magazine chose Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg despite that Julian Assange has more votes than Zuckerberg, but it later was named Readers’ Choice for TIME’s Person of the Year.
